1. Go camping! 🏕️
Camping is a great way to peel the kids from their iPads and get back to nature. Tollymore in Newcastle, Co.Down is the perfect spot for camping with the sea and forest at your fingertips!
2. Meet the Gruffalo! 🐭
Colin Glen in Dunmurray offers lots of outdoorsy activities to keep you entertained. Our pick? The Gruffalo trail! Short enough for little legs, your kids can see their bedtime story characters come to life and take selfies! A silly old fox, an owl and the snake are just some of the sculptures they’ll see on their way before greeting the Gruffalo.
3. Go on a Giant Tour! 🐉
Got Game of Thrones fans in the family? Well then this is the outdoor event for you! Operated by none other than gentlemanly giant Flip (Hordors body double in Game of Thrones) you get to see the key filming locations for Game of Thrones (Dragonshead Cliff & more) whilst also experiencing the best that Ballycastle has to offer. You also visit Murlough Bay or Slavers Bay in Game of Thrones (that we previously recommended in our Best Beaches blog). Once you’re finished, there should be time to stop off for a Morellis before heading home.
4. Explore Exploris! 🐠🐡
We know what you're thinking - isn't Exploris indoors? Well we did say outdoors-y! But they do have a brand new outdoor pool area open to the public where they rehabilitate little sea pups. And really, there will never be a day where we don’t recommend going to the Exploris aquarium. An exciting and emersive experience for all (you’ll see plenty of parents gawping at the tropical guppies) even the ferry over is an adventure. School may be out for summer, but this is a lovely way to do a little bit of learning!
